Passing Tests....

Today many tests were passed.

The most exciting test that was passed was Josh received his driver's license today! He did excellent on his driving test and the examiner came up to me afterwards and told me personally that he was a very good and cautious driver. Just what a Mom wants to hear! I'm so proud of him and he has worked hard on trying to improve his driving ability the past six months. Matt deserves some credit as he's taken Josh out multiple times to work with him on his maneuvers.

Now, I need to back up and re-wind.......

I'm just checking but when your vehicle registration is due to expire, doesn't the state usually send you a notice? Well apparently one didn't make it to our house. I'm usually on top of stuff like that.

As Josh and I were getting into the van this morning I pulled out the vehicle registration and there as plain as day the expiration date jumped out at me....EXPIRES end of APRIL 2008! What's today?....... May 1, 2008.

Oh my...........%^&($

Knowing full well if we didn't show up for Josh's drivers test the Driver's License Division would charge us for a no show. We proceeded to arrive at the DL Division and plead our case....Josh told me to "bat" my eyelashes...lol.

The DL Division was firm on not allowing us to use our vehicle because of expired registration, I didn't expect anything less. They did make an allowance for us to come back in an hour after we had completed the inspection and registered with the DMV!

Quick trip to the LUBE.....and the next test passed (which technically was the first) --- Vehicle Inspection...whew!

During the drive to the DMV Josh and I where talking that it was a blessing that this happened otherwise we would have been driving around with expired tabs and wouldn't have even known it. We tried to make a positive out of an "little" stressful situation. It worked.

To me that was passing test number two.

Once we acquired the vehicle tabs I gave Joshua the opportunity to place the tabs on the license plate. It was one of those bonding moments and an opportunity to give life experience to my 16 year old son. He now knows what it takes to keep a vehicle in good standing with the law. He did great tab sticking......... (sniff sniff)

We then, of course, hopped in the van once more and went to the Driver's License Division where the third test of the day was passed...... As I sat there waiting for Josh to come in the door, it brought memories of when I took my own driver's test. I still remember it clearly and especially the look on the examiners face (and mine) when I did a perfect parallel park. =)

Because of some computer glitch and the timing of when we had to have Josh's permit renewed he was not able to obtain his license right then. The very kind lady (in fact she ended up doing Josh's driving test) at the Division office offered to personally deliver it to our house after she gets off work today. How sweet was that!?? I think it was Joshua who was "batting" the eyelashes.

Many tests were passed today.............probably more than I realized.
