Bitter....and oh so Sweet!

Tuesday night the boys had a piano recital. They all worked very hard on their pieces in order to perform them. It was a little bitter sweet as this will be the last piano recital for both Joshua and Tanner. I am so proud of both of them for sticking with lessons over the past 5 years. Piano lessons and recitals aren't always fun, but I hope that they both will continue to play on their own as they both have a love for music. Landon will continue with lessons, as he will be learning percussion at school next year -- which go hand and hand.

THANKS to Susie - The boys piano teacher!

Here are their performances. ENJOY!

Baseball Game Success

Landon had a game tonight. Today, it was perfect baseball weather. Landon played 1st, 2nd and short stop. He also had some great hits!

Landon at Short Stop

The past few years he's been on a young team and had a little difficulty in winning games. This year his team seems to be more mature, which is a nice change to be on a team that can win a few games now and then.

This video includes two great hits, one walk, some slick base stealin' and quite a few "knuckle" hits (which is the new high 5 - I guess I'm behind the times).

Jazz Band Video

I only video taped the Jazz Band portion of the concert, because I can never see Josh way in the back playing that Contra! At least with the Jazz Band I can see his black curly hair behind the music stand. He's the 4th trombone on the right.

Hope you enjoy a little Jazz. Josh's favorite is the last song "Sing Sing Sing."

The Director, Mrs. Allred, does a fabulous job with the students.

"Pandora's Box" Percussion

This group of boys called "Pandora's Box" performed last night at the high school concert. They were very creative and entertaining! They built and designed the musical instrument out of pvc pipe. It has a blue man group feel to it. I thought they did an awesome job. All three boys are seniors and we're involved with the marching band drum line this past season with Josh.

Days rushing by......

It's time for an update. The days are just going by so fast this past week. I don't have any fancy pictures or videos for now, but I plan to work on some over the weekend - if not sooner.

Yesterday, was an absolute whirlwind of a day! Work was very busy and I seem to have become Mrs. "fix it" at the office. Can't figure it out? -- go ask Keri! It's a good thing and I'm glad that I can help others in the University world, as I surely fall short on the academic side. Last week my boss did take me out to lunch to celebrate "administrative assistant" day. It was really enjoyable and a nice sentiment.

While at work I received a phone call from Tanner in the afternoon, there was a sense of urgency. Tanner has been excited about going on a field trip to Yellowstone National Park for the past 5 months. The long waiting is over and he leaves this week. All this time I thought he was leaving on Thursday (tomorrow), but Tanner informed me on Tuesday that he leaves Wednesday! So amidst everything else going on we managed to get him all packed, errands run, and treats purchased. Got him safely on the bus....and he's gone until Friday. Hope he sees a BEAR or two! =) Thanks Matthew for helping to pick up the last minute pieces in getting Tanner on his way.

After work yesterday, we had a full schedule. Piano lesson's at 4:30...I had Josh drive, so he could take himself and Tanner home afterwards. I met up with them around 5pm as Landon had a band open house to attend for 7th grade registration. He's officially been accepted to play percussion! We are excited for him. Then on to Landon's 1st baseball game of the season. A storm was blowing in and we did get poured on for about 20 minutes, but not enough to deter the players. Landon played several positions: 2nd base, 1st base and short stop. He's really a great infield player (in my humble mother opinion) with a nice strong catch and throw...hummm, wonder where he learn that? With loaded bases and 1 out, Landon was up and hit an amazing hit out into center field. We all cheered and screamed....then the center fielder caught it and threw it to 2nd base, which resulted in a double play! Wow....such greatness so early in the season. Nice Smack Landon! Landon's team played great, but ended up behind by 2. No problem......we look forward to the next game.

I then dropped off Landon to meet up with Matt and Tanner, who were at Mutual. They were having a highly spirited game of volleyball at the local park. I headed to Joshua's high school as he was performing in their final concert of the year. Made it just in time -- well...only a few minutes late considering. The concert was a full 2 1/2 hours full of concert band, wind ensemble, percussion, choir, jazz and even a little blue man group! I have a video of this that I will post later. It's pretty entertaining!

In the midst of all the events of the day, I failed to hit the record button on my VCR to record the FINALS of the American Idol. After realizing this, while already on my way up to the high school.....Yes I was sad, but I accepted it and moved on! I was doing the Mom things that I knew I should be doing. Get a grip women!

Once I returned home around 10pm I quickly went to the computer to look up how the performances went, but soon my 16 year old demanding son needed to WATCH the band performances of that night and it was a higher priority than mine -- that is what I was told anyhow. Go figure....??

So I conceded and plopped in bed. Just not a battle that I wanted to have at that moment.

Some other happenings in the past few days:

I never thought I would agreed to it, but Tanner and Joshua are officially done with piano lessons. All three boys have had lessons for almost 5 years now. Tanner hates it....lol, and told me to stop wasting our money on him. OK....Tanner, make sure to tell us how you feel!!! After a long talk we have come to an agreement. We want the kids to be involved with "something" we don't care what it is, just get involved! So Tanner has officially joined the high school marching band. This will be a good place for him. We'll reassess the situation in one years time. =)

Joshua on the other hand....loves piano, enjoys practicing and I find him often on the piano playing just for fun. He's just too busy with everything else that he's involved with and can't give piano the time that he needs. Josh wants to focus on his horn playing and I want him to do what he loves. I have a feeling we'll still hear his fingers making music!

Landon on the other other hand.....will continue as he's going to do percussion next year at school. Percussion and piano go hand-in-hand. Landon seems content with the decision.

Last Friday we all attended a marching band barbeque! It was great fun and very well attended. Near the end of the dinner they had a pie eating contest in which they had one person from each section (sax, trumpet, flute, contra, etc) be the lucky contestant. Josh was the only contra player there so...tag your it. Of course the contestants couldn't use their hands, so it made for an interesting event. Just as the winner was announced, the pies starting flying, with one hitting Josh right in the side of the head and down his back. Ever see chocolate pudding in black curly hair? nice............................... I of course didn't have my camera, but after seeing the pies flying it was probably a good thing. We ended up taking a few of Josh's friends home with us and they enjoyed a fun night around the campire, making smores and talking "teen" talk. Josh, first took a quick shower. I guess he didn't want to sport the pie head look.

As the school year is winding down the kids have earned a few recognitions. This morning Landon and I got up bright and early to attend a "breakfast of champions" as they honored those students who received a 4.0 during the school year. It was quite an amazing site to see about 400 people in the cafeteria at 6:30am this morning! Great crowd and a lot of great students and faculty!

Tanner also received recognition for being on the honor roll several times during the school year!

Great job BOYS! Proud of you all!

It's a wonderful raining day!

Jokes

Here are some funny jokes that I came across today, so I thought I would share. My boss handed me a funny comic and it just got me started looking for a few more to put up in my office. =)

I think the first one is the funnest, as it's me to a T! (I'm sure my sister, Kristi, would agree!)

Norway Report

Landon's Norway country report was today.

Both Matt and I were able to be there to watch.

He did an awesome job! What I was most impressed with is that he did the whole report on his own: poster, researched facts, etc. No parental help, other than gathering up some neat artifacts from Grandpa Walker.

He was poised, well prepared and smooooth! Didn't even seem nervous. Is this the Landon we all know? =)

Landon's teacher, Mrs. Murray, had some nice things to say at the end of the video too.

Excellent Job Today Landon!
